What is 1080p? – Samsung LN52B750 LCD HDTV Breakdown
Written by Phil Edgar on July 5th, 2009The Samsung LN52B750 52 inch 1080p LCD HDTV is Samsung’s latest and greatest 52 inch LCD HDTV. HDTV stands for High Definition Television and incorporates a few excellent qualities to provide high definition images for its watchers.
The Samsung LN52B750 comes with 1080p resolution. This is a grey area when it comes to finding the best HDTV for most people as they don’t really know what 1080p even is!
The term 1080p basicly means that there are 1080 “progressive scans” on the TV’s screen. A progressive scan is a line of vertical resolution. Up until recently, an HDTV with 720p was the highest quality money could buy.
The more progressive scans a television has, the more pixels the screen will have, and the better quality it’s images will be. A good example for me to use to explain all about this would be mobile phone cameras. If you were to compare a mobile phone’s images with images of a top of the line digital camera, the quality of the images of the digital camera would be far more sharper. The reason for this is because its images have more pixels and the same principal goes for TVs.
Try to imagine your TV screen as a grid of hundreds of thousands of tiny little squares on it. Each square of this grid is called a pixel and each pixel can only be one color at any one time.
If you took this grid away and replaced it with a new grid of lots more, smaller pixels, this would make the images of your HDTV much sharper, as there would be many more pixels than before.
Assuming you’re watching a 1080p screen with 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio, your TV will have 1080 lines of vertical resolution and 1920 lines of horizontal resolution. That is a heck of a lot of pixels to watch a movie or TV show on – two million, seventy three thousand and six hundred to be exact!
So always remember the higher the number of progressive scans on your high def television, the more pixels your screen will have, and in turn, higher quality images will be shown. 1080p quality is the highest available to buy nowadays, so quite simply, shows the highest quality pictures.
